Unable to Connect to the OpenStorage Device

Error:
Unable to connect to the OpenStorage device. Ensure that the network is properly configured between the device and the media server.

Environment:
Backup Server: Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3
OpenStorage Device: DataDomain DD670 running 5.0.0.7-226726

Today I was configuring DDBOOST for Backup Exec 2010 R3 using a replicated pair of DD670’s. The DD670’s were pre-configured with version 4.9 which I upgraded to 5.0.0.7-226726. I setup the 670 with a standard configuration and then configured a storageunit.Upon setting up the OpenStorage device inside of Backup Exec, I noticed that even with all of the right settings I was getting the error: “Unable to connect to the OpenStorage device. Ensure that the network is properly configured between the device and the media server.” At first glance it appeared that this was a networking issue, so I went back to my configuration settings and also verified the connectivity between the Backup Exec Media server and the DataDomain appliance. All seemed well so I took a second look at the DataDomain configuration and I realized that I didnt disable and re-enable boost after creating the storage unit. FIXED ! Backup Exec accepted the new configuration without error. Not the most glamorous fix, but I’m sure some of you will come across this.
